Shooting dice has been a form of gambling for thousands of years. Far longer than other casino games, such as roulette or blackjack. There have been games that involve six sided cubes in all sorts of forms. Therefore the game of craps as well as it’s set of rules have been evolving for quite some time.
While casino craps may appear to be very complicated, simplified versions of the classic can be found everywhere. All that you really need to play craps is the two dice, a few players and, of course, some money. Throughout World War II, crap was played by American soldiers in their downtime. From the battlefronts to the school yards to the street corners, craps has shown to be a highly malleable form of gambling that can be played in virtually any arena.
Where did the game of craps originate?
The origins of craps are a bit hazy. When researching the history of human leisure activities (such as music or games), a large amount of the information will come with statements starting with “no one can really know how (blank) first started.” Our recreational pursuits generally don’t have very clear beginnings or endings. Leisure activities tend to sort of blend together throughout the ages.
Cultures will influence other cultures, and certain leisurely pursuits are borrowed, abandoned or augmented. Nobody can say for certain who came up with which part first. The only part that can be looked at are the similarities which have developed over time.
